The last few months have changed my life forever. From Soldier, JVB Protective Service Agent, and Sniper in the middle of an occupation war, to anti-war veteran within days.
Thank you for your support during my moments of tragedy, and more importantly, thank you for the hope. It’s a hope for healing my soul, and finding ways to deal with the aftershocks from my role in the larger tragedy known as "Iraq".
I arrived stateside from Iraq/Kuwait August 13, and was completely released from the military on August 17. I found myself back in my hometown of Bowling Green, Kentucky planning to take some time off to "decompress". However, I quickly found myself writing to Courage to Resist and Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW) instead, asking what I could do now to help the cause and to end the war. ... (more)

(August 29, 2007) - Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) issued the following statement calling on Congress to not appropriate any more funds for the war in Iraq, in response to today's Washington Post report that President Bush plans on asking Congress for $197 billion in funding for the Iraq war for FY 2008:
"We do not have to fund the war. The Democratic leadership must tell the President NO to any additional funding. No legislation is required. No vote is required. We have the money to bring the troops home. It does not require a vote. The only thing required is honesty, integrity and a willingness to end the war," Kucinich said.
"The President's request escalated by $50 billion to continue the surge-a surge that is failing.
"More than 3,700 Americans have died and an estimated one million innocent Iraqis have perished in an unjust and unnecessary war. ... (more)
Healthcare workers, senior citizens and politicians got together Wednesday, Aug. 29th, in La Crosse, WI. in support of a bill that would expand medical care for children and protect Medicare for seniors.
U.S. Representative Ron Kind of the 3rd District of Wisconsin held a press conference to talk about the Children's Health and Medicare Protection Act (CHAMP Act), recently passed by the House. He said, "It's wrong for any child in America to go without the medical care they need, and this bill is a reasonable and affordable way to ensure our kids are taken care of."
Kind also said the Senate has a different version of the bill that doesn't address health care provider reimbursement. A House-Senate conference committee will work out the final version which Kind said should include many provisions of the House ...

Bill Richardson’s position on ending the war is clear. From the beginning of the campaign he has been calling for complete withdrawal of ALL troops. No excuses. No delays. No troops left behind.
In the most recent debate, he asked the other major candidates a clear question: how many troops would you leave behind and for how long? We have yet to hear an answer.
All the major Democratic candidates say they are eager to end this war, and they all say they don’t believe there is a military solution in Iraq. Why, then, do they maintain that we must leave an indefinite number of troops behind for an indeterminate amount of time to work hopelessly towards a military solution everyone says doesn’t exist?

According to a post on the AfterDowningStreet.org website, an article written by Gareth Porter of the Inter Press Service, Israeli officials warned the Bush administration that an invasion of Iraq would destabilize the region and urged the U.S. to target Iran as the primary enemy. Which was according to a former administration official by the name of Lawrence Wilkerson.
Wilkerson recalled in an interview with Inter Press Service (IPS) that Israelis reacted immediately to indications that the Bush administration was thinking of war with Iraq. Wilkerson said, "The Israelis were telling us Iraq is not the enemy-Iran is the enemy."
The message was conveyed to the administration by Israeli sources, including political figures, intelligence and private citizens.
Prime Minister Ariel Sharon had a meeting with Bush to discuss U.S. intentions to invade Iraq on Feb. 7, 2002. Though Sharon never revealed publicly what he said to Bush, Yossi Alpher, who is a former advisor to ... (more)
The day I actually believe what Conyers says is the day he actually signs his name on an official document or bill saying he will get the Impeachment process underway and actually carries through on it.

President Bush has plans to ask Congress next month for up to another $50 Billion for the war in Iraq, according to an article in the WashingtonPost.com website. Which would be an amount added on top of about $460 Billion for the fiscal year of 2008 defense budget and $147 Billion in a pending supplimental bill to fund the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. He is expected to announce his request of an additional $50 Billion after the Congressional hearings that are scheduled for mid September when Petraeus and Crocker will give their Iraq progress report.
If the President gets his way, it will mean the revised supplimental bill would be about $200 Billion, meaning the cost of war in Iraq would now exceed $3 Billion each week that the U.S. is paying.

White House pranksters wrapped his jaguar in plastic wrap on the private driveway next to the West Wing. Rove had left his car there while he visited Texas and travelled with Bush.

According to the Iraqi Coalition Casualty Count website: http://icasualties.org, it confirms the number I recorded earlier of U.S. troop deaths to date as being 3,732 in Iraq. Also, this website claims the numbers they record of the Iraqi civilian casualties and contractors are estimated and that the accurate count would be higher than what they have listed here. So, here it goes:
As of today Civilians Reported Killed By Military Intervention In Iraq are a minimum of 70,749 to a maximum of 77,272.
As of June 30,2007, government figures show 1,001 contractors died since start of war in Iraq. (NOTE TO BLOG READERS: Ah, Occupation. This count is also contractors from other nations as well that died in Iraq, not just the number of U.S. ... (more)
According to an article on CNN.com, there have been a total of 4,030 coalition deaths in Iraq as of today since the occupation of Iraq began. This report does not include all the U.S. Contractors who have been killed. They seem to have bypassed that information. Also, this report does not list the total Iraqi Civilian deaths. Just the coalition deaths, so I will report what I have so far.

According to an article released on RawStory.com today, the U.S. may be preparing to launch without warning a massive assault on Iranian uranium enrichment facilities, as well as government buildings and infrastructure there, using long range bombers and missiles, according to a new analysis.

As you may or may not know, Ron Paul is one of the Republican candidates running for President, who is a representative of the 14th District of Texas. One who is not mentioned much. Over the last month and a half I have filled out and sent postcards to many representatives to support H.R. 333. Postcards I had downloaded from AfterDowningStreet.org. Within the past 2 weeks or more the letters I am recieving back are pouring in. I had mailed the postcards off to probably about 2/3rds of the representatives, but the letters I've been getting back haven't been too promising. Some letters I got back, the representatives forwarded my mail to Ron Kind, my representative. Who knows how many postcards the guy has from me now! But, it did send a message to the ones who wouldn't anwer anything to me and just forwarded everything. The Peoples March for Peace, Equality, Jobs, and Justice was held on Saturday, August 25th in Newark, NJ. It brought thousands of pleas for Impeachment of Bush and Cheney. John Conyers was there to promote the National Health Insurance bill, H.R. 676. But the cries for Impeachment were center stage.
Conyers replied to their pleas for Impeachment by saying they need to bring back Rumsfeld and put him on trial. When asked who would be first, the Impeachment crowd replied "Cheney". Some Impeach activists in the crowd asked him, "When are you going to act on this?" To which he replied he was going to meet with impeachment activists. He pointed backstage.

I spent most of the weekend e-mailing nearly all the U.S. Senators and about 2/3rds of the Representatives who would allow e-mails from someone other than their constituents, this article along with my views. This is not the first time I e-mailed nearly all these individuals and it will not be the last. I have e-mailed them about the occupation and Impeachment several times. I was surprised to hear so soon on this issue and in great detail from a Representative out of state. Most of the Representatives I can get in contact with, shove me off. While the estimated figure for the cost of war in Iraq for Wisconsin taxpayers is around $7.3 billion and counting, the Wisconsin State Republican controlled Assembly is trying and is cutting funds for programs. Two of these programs were mentioned today in the La Crosse Tribune on-line.
A week before classes start at the UW system schools here in Wisconsin, 3,800 college students are still waiting around to see what kind of financial aid they will be able to get for the coming school year. A great number of students have been put on a waiting list for aid from Wisconsin Higher Education Grant program. Anyone who applied after June 26th was put on this list as it is a first come, first serve basis.
Governor Doyle and certain other Democrats in the state Senate proposed spending $50 million on the program, while the Republican controlled state Assembly proposed only $39 million be spent on the program. ... (more)
It is official: Attorney Alberto Gonzales has RESIGNED. Another one of Bush's right hand men, has resigned. Bush's aides are dropping like flies so to speak. Leaving him more alone than I'm sure he has ever felt. Good work putting the pressure on people, it in turn has put the pressure on Congress to actually do something about him these last few months, creating a chain reaction that has extended to this creep leaving his office. We all need to celebrate, another one gone.

Counterinsurgency is, by definition, a competition between insurgents and counterinsurgents for the control and support of a population. To believe that Americans, with an occupying force that long ago outlived its reluctant welcome, can win over a recalcitrant local population and win this counterinsurgency is far-fetched. As responsible infantrymen and noncommissioned officers with the 82nd Airborne Division soon heading back home, we are skeptical of recent press coverage portraying the conflict as increasingly manageable and feel it has neglected the mounting civil, political and social unrest we see every day. ... Four people from Code Pink were arrested yesterday along with another person who was protesting with them, outside of Pelosi's local office at the old Federal Building in San Francisco. They had blocked the building with possibly 10 other protestors, wearing pink duct tape on their mouths as a symbol for them being silenced when trying to talk of peace. Nancy Pelosi had not had a public meeting with her constituents since January of 2006, months before becoming Speaker of the House. Pelosi's aid told them she had no room on her agenda this recess to publicly dialogue with any of her constituents about peace.

Most Republicans continue to follow Bush blindly on his war policies without regards to the amount of lives lost, our wasted tax dollars on a civil war in Iraq that continues to get worse the longer our troops remain over there. Many innocent Iraqi civilians have been killed, both by suicide bombers and by U.S. troops trying to bomb the insurgents to kingdom come, or hell, whichever saying you wish to refer to. Alot of money is being used on Iraq and funds for important things here to help the people of America are being cut down, or improvements to programs just really not being worked on, granted, some programs have had a little work done to them, but the majority of them need taken care of.
There are more terrorists now than before the occupation of Iraq began. Al Qeida has grown back to about the strength it was around 9/11 by being allowed to rebuild their forces near the Pakistani borders because Bush turned most of his attention to Iraq in the last few years. ... (more)
"The president's surge was supposed to create the political space for national reconciliation. Instead the politics have reached total gridlock, while the security situation remains essentially unchanged. By the President's own measures the surge has failed," Ilan Goldenberg, policy director of the National Security Network in Washington, stated.
"The speech was an act of desperation to scare the American people into staying the course in Iraq. He's distorted the facts, painting all of the people in Iraq as being on the same side which is simply not the case. Iraq is a religious civil war," said Lawrence Korb, assistant defense secretary under President Reagan and now a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress, a liberal think tank in Washington.

The organization, Iraq Veterans Against the War, (IVAW), will be launching a campaign to encourage U.S. troops to refuse to fight. The organization says it has made supporting war resisters a part of what they do.
IVAW also have plans to step up their efforts to undermine military recruiting efforts.
In September the organization plans to launch a "truth in recruiting" campaign. It will include antiwar outreach to highschools and community colleges, protests at recruiting stations, and efforts to "make friends with a recruiter," whereby a person who isn't interested in military service contacts a recruiter in order to waste his time and prevent him from encouraging others to join up.

According to an article in the New York Times, City Councilman in New York, Simcha Fletcher was behind a bill that makes the unsolicited distribution of fliers illegal.

I recently reported about an organization a few days ago that has already been fined $10,000 for putting up fliers in Washington, D.C. to spread the word about a peaceful Anti-War and Impeachment protest that is happening there on September 15th from many people across the nation. They have yet to also face paying much more money in a few more fines from the members of the Bush Administration. This group claims they will not pay a penny for something that was legal for them to do and is also legal according to the laws of Washington, D.C. As the days, months, and even years wear on I have been seeing just how important it is to myself and others around this country that Bush and members of his regime be held accountable for the damage they have done to us, the military and the Constitution. It is also important that we let Congress know how angry and frustrated we are at the actions they continue not to take. They have made so many different excuses for not doing the job they were hired to do. Such as Impeachment would further divide the country, when actually the country has been divided enough with Bush and his regime in power. Also, that Impeachment would take away time that they have to take care of more important matters, like passing bills that have needed to be worked on to further better things, when actually, the President vetoes the really important things that should be passed, which means Congress has not been able to get alot of the bills passed that they have been trying to work on. ... Today, for the second time in recent months I have heard John Warner speak out and speak up about Bush's troop surge. According to an article published by the AP(Associated Press) today, John Warner, a Republican Senator of Virginia said that Bush should start bringing home some of the troops by Christmas to show the government in Baghdad that U.S. commitment in Iraq is not open ended. He also said troop withdrawals are needed because Iraqi leaders have failed to make substantial political progress and bringing about 5,000 of the 160,000 troops home that are in Iraq would send a powerful message.
Warner's position on such an issue could possibly encourage other Republicans to challenge Bush. Earlier in the week, Senator Carl Levin of Michigan said Maliki should be replaced. Senator Dianne Feinstein, Democrat of California, told reporters today that Maliki has been a failure.

Courage To Resist is an organization that supports troops who refuse to fight. As you may or may not be aware of, any uniform faces court-martial, dismissal and sometimes even the brig for refusing to pick up arms while in the War. The Bush Administration does it again and breaks another deadline. This time it is on failure to issue two scientific reports on global warming which a federal judge had ordered. U.S. District Court Judge Saundra Armstrong ruled Tuesday(Aug. 21) that the Bush Administration violated a 1990 law when it failed to meet deadlines for an updated U.S. climate change research plan and impact assessment. Judge Armstrong had set a May 1st deadline for the administration to issue the research plan and a May 31st deadline for the administration to issue a national assessment. A new group called "Freedoms Watch" has gotten going. They are for the war and are trying to get Congress members to keep the war going. Their efforts start now until sometime in September by using $15 million on TV and radio advertisements and grassroots activities. According to an article on the New York Times on-line newspaper, the Bush Administration has adopted new standards that would make it more difficult for New York, California and other states to extend health care coverage to children in middle income families. Administration officials claimed the changes aimed to return the Children's Health Insurance Program to it's original plan to help low incom children. I, myself, want to make clear to people that if the President and certain members of his administration continue to use "executive priviledge", these investigations in the Senate that are happening cannot go much further, considering evidence in these cases and testimony from some of these individuals would be withheld, under the terms of "executive priviledge". Impeachment would certainly keep Bush from interfering, claiming executive priviledge, then Congress would better be able to do their job of protecting the Constitution and the people, getting the criminals out of the administration, passing more bills that are worthy to the American people without having to worry about yet ANOTHER veto from Bush. According to a recent video that someone posted on You Tube, Representative Norman Dicks was being hassled by his constituents in his home district of Washington state. Some of the answers he gave to the questions on Impeachment were the kinds of excuses we are used to hearing by now from members of Congress. One excuse, of course, was to elect a Democrat in 2008, another pertained to the trial going on right now with Gonzales in the U.S. Attorney firing case, the court system and the subpoenas that have been issued to Bush and certain members of the Administration. His thoughts are, if Bush and the Administration continue to delay in handing over documents and testifying, the courts will hopefully exercise their right and hold some in contempt and maybe some of this will lead to trials. Two activists got into the Lions Club Town Hall meeting in Tulsa, OK on August 14th where Representative John Sullivan was speaking. Towards the end of it all, one of these activists had the opportunity to speak. When he finally rose to speak, the activist asked Rep. Sullivan, "Given that Bush continued a wiretapping, spy program that a Federal Judge had already found illegal, making him a criminal, shouldn't he be impeached?" Sullivan replied that he didn't know, that many times there are differing opinions on these things. But Sullivan also says that he knows he should, but he didn't pay attention to these things. According to an article on the Democrats.com website, when Pelosi visited New Orleans recently with a Congressional delegation, Democrats.com and others were there. A plane flew a message over 9th ward with the words "Pelosi Impeach Bush! Text IMPEACH to 30644." It was chased away by another plane. Dr. Ben Marble tried to bring an Impeachment sign over to Pelosi, but security dressed in plain clothes chased him away and had also covered his mouth at a certain point of time to keep him quiet. According to a AP report(Associated Press) released today, the Vice-President's office has identified more than 40 "Top Secret/Codeword Presidential Authorizations" and memoranda from the Justice Department that may respond to the subpoena issued that requests documents to be handed over to do with Bush's secret eavesdropping program. But Cheney's office shows indication that it may not turn these papers over without a fight. The documents are dated from October 4, 2001 and December 2006. According to an article written by Reuters on August 16th, people using CIA and FBI computers have edited entries in the on-line encyclopedia Wikipedia, from such topics pertaining to things like the Iraq War and Guantanamo, according to a tracing system. Which may violate Wikipedia's conflict-of-interest guidelines. WikiScanner revealed CIA computers were used to edit an entry on the U.S. led invasion of Iraq in 2003 to do with a graphic on casualties. Another entry was edited on former CIA chief William Colby to expand his career history. Aerial and satellite images were removed by an FBI computer of the U.S. prison in Guantanamo. Computers at numerous other organizations and companies had also been involved in editing articles related to them. There has been an Orange Revolution going on for a few weeks now. All over this country. Fridays are usually the day to wear orange. According to an article written in the Huffington Post today on-line, Senator Leahy of Vermont, also Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, threatened to hold members of the Bush Administration in contempt for not producing subpoenaed information on any legal justification of President Bush's secretive eavesdropping program. Leahy has plans to mention it to his committee when the Senate gets back in session. On June 27th the Justice Department, National Security Council, and the offices of President and Vice-President were subpoenaed for documents relating to the issue mentioned above. On August 15th, at an office meeting with 8 members of the Los Angeles National Impeachment Center(LANIC), a center that opened up a few weeks ago, Representative Adam Schiff of the 29th District of California stonewalled on the Impeachment issue. Outside of the meeting, other members and associates rallied with Impeachment signs and banners. The group collected over 3,500 handwritten signatures and addresses from Los Angeles citizens between July 7th to August 15th. A copy of these was given to the Congressman and there was much discussion about Impeachment to him by the members of LANIC. One of LANIC's members, Peter Thottam, asked Schiff what he thought the obstacles were to passing H.R. 333 and how to get more Congress members on board. According to an article on the LitchfieldEnquirer.com website, six people were protesting the war outside the Litchfield Community Center on Saturday where U.S. Representative Chris Murphy from the 5th District of Connecticut had come to give a speech about land preservation. For years now since the Patriot Act was formed and signed into law, there has been much debate around this country as to what effects the Patriot Act has had on us American citizens and whether or not it takes away some of our rights as defined by the U.S. Constitution. The President and his people seem to think that it takes care of the security issues at hand better while still protecting some of our civil liberties, as even stated on the Whitehouse website of the President's. A friend recently e-mailed me about how much it costs her daughter for her first year of college. $10,000 before interest, she didn't mention how much the interest would amount to on top of it but I can only imagine. So, I did a little research of my own and hope to do some follow ups on the matter later. The "College Student Relief Act of 2007" was introduced on January 12, 2007. U.S. Representative Ron Kind of the 3rd District of Wisconsin, my representative in fact, co-sponsored this bill along with about 211 others according to the GovTrack website. The original sponsor of the bill was Representative George Miller from California. According to a statement on Ron Kind's website, Ron Kind has worked with his colleagues to increase college access while reducing college costs. In 1834, Democratic President Andrew Jackson was "censured" in retaliation for his withholding documents. Three years later a Democratic Senate "expunged" the censure from the record. Yet Bush claims he will veto bills that provide too much money to children's health and many other programs, all the way up to worker protection programs, and block legislation that tries to address energy dependence, global warming, or absence of universal healthcare. As long as Bush and his administration are in power, Congress will not be able to do much in terms to do with the good of the people, but Bush has the money for his war. Alot of excuses I have heard Senators and Representatives give me about not Impeaching is that it would take too much time and they need to focus on getting more things passed in both houses to help with such issues. As you may or may not know, the people all around this country have been talking about the Impeachment of Cheney for quite some time. It is the belief of many that if we Impeach Bush we will get Cheney. So, Representative Dennis Kucinich had Introduced 3 Articles of Impeachment against Vice President Dick Cheney on April 24,2007. The bill, H.R. 333 has gathered about 19 co-sponsors to the bill including himself. Co-sponsors being other fellow members of the U.S. House of Representatives. Wisconsin is one of the most expensive places to buy health insurance in this country today. So, earlier this year, the Wisconsin State Senate approved funding for "Healthy Wisconsin". This proposal would provide all residents with the same healthcare benefits as state employees while preserving choice of doctors. By doing this, it would reduce healthcare costs for most families, businesses and taxpayers across the state of Wisconsin. Contrary to the Wisconsin State Senate, the State Assemby has been refusing to approve funding Healthy Wisconsin. Both houses are now negotiating a budget compromise that all members can agree on. Wisconsin just may end up being the first state in this country to garauntee affordable coverage to all it's citizens, but the pressure must be put on our state representatives by the people of Wisconsin if we really are going to get them to act. My name is Kim, as you already would have guessed. I was born and raised in Wisconsin. I have just reached the age of 32. My sincere hope in creating this blog is to be able to reach out to people and get to know others and hopefully share some experiences, as well as get some discussions going about events going on in the world of today. I am an activist in the world of politics. I hope, one day soon, to have a government again in this country that believes in defending the Constitution and putting our rights and us ahead of their own well being. Living in a certain section of Wisconsin, surrounded by small towns and plenty of countryside, people are not always well informed of what goes on out there in other parts of the country.
